Congo Airways to cut workforce

Congo Airways (CGA, Kinshasa N'Djili) has begun reducing its workforce barely a year after it first commenced operations. The Brazzaville-based Agence d'information d'Afrique centrale (ADIAC) news agency reports that so far, thirty employees have been sent on extended leave.

The state-owned carrier's management, now headed by CEO Désiré Balazire, has reportedly experienced difficulties in generating sufficient revenue to pay its staff given that it currently operates only four aircraft. As such, the overall target is to reduce its head count from the current 400 to 200.

Congo Airways operates two Dash 8-400s and two A320-200s on scheduled passenger flights to nine destinations across the DRC. International flights are tentatively scheduled to launch in early November of this year.
