Emirates accepts first Rolls Royce-powered A380s

Emirates (EK, Dubai Int'l) has taken delivery of its first three Rolls-Royce-powered A380-800s following the arrival of A6-EUM (msn 225), A6-EUN (msn 226), and A6-EUO (msn 227) at Dubai Int'l in late December 2016.

The first of the aircraft was to have arrived in the Gulf in early December but was delayed owing to technical issues with the Trent 900 powerplant. According to the Emirati carrier, it has now reached an agreement with the UK-based engine manufacturer.

"Emirates can confirm that we have come to an agreement with Rolls-Royce on the technical issue relating to engines for our A380s," a spokesperson told AFP.

Part of the deal also involves the deferred delivery of six aircraft due in 2017, to 2018, while six due in 2018 have now been delayed to 2019.

Aside from this recently delivered trio of aircraft, Emirates also operates eighty-nine A380s powered by Engine Alliance GP 7270 engines.
