Arik alerts travelers of severe aviation fuel scarcity

Arik Air on Friday alerted air travelers of severe aviation fuel (Jet A1) scarcity which may hamper flight operations. The airline said the scarcity became evident few days ago when oil marketers started rationing supply to airlines owing to limited stock at the depots.

Daily Trust reports that Arik Air is the largest consumer of aviation fuel in Nigeria with more than 120 daily flights and daily fuel requirement of about 500,000 liters. In a statement by its spokesman, Ola Adebanji, it was explained that the situation is critical in Lagos and Abuja which are the operational hubs of the airline.

According to the airline, if the situation is not addressed, more flights could be delayed or cancelled. The airline therefore appealed for the understanding of passengers as “it grapples with the JET A1 scarcity”.
