The famous Blue Angels precision flying team will return to flight in July after a stand down following a deadly crash in Tennessee, the Navy announced Saturday.
The stand down began after a crash on June 2 during a practice in Smyrna, TN, in which Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss was killed.
The team’s next demonstration is scheduled for July 2-4 in Traverse City, MI. The return to flight means the squadron will be able to perform at the annual Miramar Air Show in September.
“The team is proud to resume the Blue Angels mission, representing the pride and professionalism of the Navy and Marine Corps, and inspiring a culture of excellence,” said Cmdr. Ryan Bernacchi, commanding officer and flight leader.
“Our fans and the entire air show industry have been extremely patient as we have navigated through this very difficult loss of our teammate, and for that, we will always be grateful,” he added.
