Pilot accused of drinking on the job at Detroit Airport pleads not guilty

A pilot who showed up to work drunk was ordered to undergo alcohol and drug testing after being arraigned on Wednesday on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol.

John Francis Maguire, 50, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, was ordered to take the tests as a part of a $10,000 bond.

Maguire’s attorney said he is a decorated commercial airline pilot, and he has a lot of faith in McGuire.

The American Airlines co-pilot was accused of drinking on the job at Detroit Metropolitan airport before boarding a Philadelphia bound flight in March.

TSA officials at Detroit Metro Airport first noticed Maguire when he started acting confused before the boarding process.

He boarded the flight and made it to the cockpit of the plane, but reportedly had problems getting into his seat and that's where TSA officials stepped in.

The flight from Detroit to Philadelphia was canceled and the pilot was removed from the flight.

He was arrested at the airport and booked at the police station where authorities say his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

He was later released on a $10,000 bond.

Under the release conditions, Mcguire is not allowed to consume alcohol or non-prescription drug and will undergo random drug tests.

He's scheduled to return to court July 15 for a pretrial hearing
