Bomb scare on five Jet Airways flights



NEW DELHI | MUMBAI: Jet Airways received bomb scare for its five flights flying out of Delhi on Tuesday leading to diversion of one, delaying the other, while the rest three had already reached their respective destinations. Out of five flights, two were for Chennai, one each for Gorakhpur, Chandigarh and Dehradun.



"Jet Airways has received a security alert for five flights from Delhi. All flights are on ground and are being checked by security agencies at the respective airports. We regret the inconvenience caused to our guests," the airline said in a statement. One Jet flight to Chennai (9W-828) was diverted to Nagpur while the other Chennai flight (9W-832) was parked at the isolation bay in Delhi.

"The flight is currently being checked. Boarding for this flight (9W-832) had not started when the information came," said an airport source. By the time the threat information was received, 9W-307 (Delhi-Dehradun), 9W-2657 (Delhi-Chandigarh) and 9W-2647 (Delhi-Gorakhpur) had landed at their respective destinations.

Earlier in the day, two of Jet Airways' employees were injured in a bomb explosion at Brussels airport. The explosions in Brussuls, said to be part of terror attacks, were accompanied by gunshots, leading to several deaths and injuries. The airport was evacuated. Flight schedules were disrupted.

In a series of statements, Jet said it has cancelled several flights on March 22, from Brussels to Newark, Toronto, Mumbai and New Delhi. Inbound flights from Newark and Toronto to Brussels on March 22, were also cancelled. Even flights on March 23, from Mumbai, Delhi to Brussels are also cancelled.

Jet said its passengers at Brussels have been re-located to a safe spot by the Brussels Airport authorities. "Jet Airways guests and staff on the landside at Brussels airport have been moved away faroff from the terminal. Transit guests who were in the terminal building have been shifted to hangers in coaches.

Our Brussels staff is co-ordinating with airport authorities and security agencies to arrange immigration formalities as soon as possible to move the transit guests out of the airport," it said, adding arrangements for their food and accomodation were being made.
