2 people killed in small plane crash in El Paso County

PALMER LAKE, COLO. (AP) - Investigators say two people were killed when the small airplane they were in crashed into a field in El Paso County and sparked a grass fire.

Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, tells the Colorado Springs Gazette  the single-engine plane crashed in the town of Palmer Lake on Wednesday morning. The victims' names have not been released.

Eric Weiss, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, confirmed the deaths, and the county coroner's office says it will take several days to identify the victims.

Palmer Lake is near the Air Force Academy, but school officials say the plane isn't one of its aircraft. The academy was not flying planes Wednesday partly due to strong winds.
