Elderly restorer set fire at Aviation Museum in Bulgaria’s Krumovo

Plovdiv. An investigation on the fire at the Aviation Museum in the village of Krumovo has been launched under the supervision of the Military Prosecutor’s Office in Bulgaria’s second-biggest city of Plovdiv, the press office of the institution announced.
Five aircrafts were damaged – two original ones and two model planes.

The investigation ascertained that the fire started at 11 a.m. on 12.03.2016 at a hangar to the Aviation Museum, which also sheltered restored museum exhibits, which were being prepared for the forthcoming Aviation Day.
The 75-year-old restorer, Mincho L., started working with an angle grinder although there were flammable materials inside the premise (varnish, paint, wood, clothes, and others, which the different parts of the museum exhibits were made of). During the work, the angle grinder produced sparks, which fell down on the wing of one of the planes and it set on fire. Milncho L. tried to put down the fire but failed and it started expanding very fast.
