Small plane crashes in Gainesville



GAINESVILLE, Fla. —

Rescuers say two people injured in a small plane crash in Gainesville Sunday are in stable condition.



According to the Gainesville police department, the crash happened after a fire ignited in the cockpit shortly after noon.

The pilot made an emergency landing in the 1900 block of NE Waldo Rd and hit a tree in the median of the road.

No one on the ground was hurt.

Both the pilot and passenger were transported to a hospital. 

Northeast Waldo Road was expected to be blocked between 16th Ave and 23rd until the plane can be removed.
