JOHANNESBURG - The office of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says he was driven back safely to his Johannesburg home yesterday from Mpumalanga after a South African Air Force aircraft he was meant to travel in developed technical problems.
Ramaphosa was in the province, where he was installed as the first chancellor of the new University Of Mpumalanga.
His office says shortly after taking off from Kruger National Park Airport, the aircraft experienced a fault midair, forcing the pilot to return to the airport.
Ramaphosa's Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said, “As a consequence Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa was then driven back home safety to Johannesburg by the South African Police Service.”
In February, President Jacob Zuma was left stranded in Burundi after a problem with his presidential jet. Zuma was there to meet with other heads of state over peace talks.
