Bayu Air admits it hasn't applied for airline operation licence

The new airline, Bayu Air has admitted that it had yet to submit an application for a flying permit or airline operation licence to the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

Its chief executive officer Mohd Saifulrizal Raffien said the company was preparing the documents for the application of the air services permit (ASP) and would send the application to the DCA in the near future.

"The pre-launch and media conference held on Feb 16 was merely to inform the tour agencies that Bayu Air was set up to facilitate the tour agencies in terms of group travelling for the performance of the 'Umrah' and tourism," he said in a statement tonight.

He was commenting on the statement by DCA director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman today that the DCA had not received any application whether for a permit or licence to operate from Bayu Air so far.

Azharuddin was reported as saying that he regretted the action taken by Bayu Air for having made an announcement on the commencement of their flying operations in August before applying and receiving the approval needed from the authorities.

Mohd Saifulrizal explained that the airline had no intention of ignoring the regulations specified in the Civil Aviation Act under regulation 10 and 17.

"Bayu Air had never stated that we have already had the permit or flying licence although we have plans to operate fully in August 2016. The plan also depended on the speed of approval for Bayu Air's flying permit and licence," he said.

He also apologised for the confusion caused which was unintended.

Bayu Air is owned by a bumiputera company, Bayu Mutiara Skyways Sdn Bhd, which was set up in 2014 and based in Cyberjaya with a staff of up to 300.
