Prince William working just 20 hours a week flying air ambulance

PRINCE William has been working just 20 hours a week in his pilot job, it emerged last night.

Dad-of-two Wills usually does 8½-hour shifts for the East Anglian Air Ambulance on a four days on, four days off rota.

But some of his 11 pilot colleagues are reported to have complained he is more off-shift than on.

A royal source said his diary had to fit in his various roles.

Yet he managed only 87 public appearances in Britain last year and 35 abroad — 128 fewer than his 94-year-old grandfather Prince Philip.

But the CAA said the Duke’s staff were “confused”.

A spokesman said: “It’s true that you can only work a certain number of hours in any given period, but to suggest pilots can’t do anything else on rest days is unenforceable.

“When they are having rest days their time is their own, and they can do what they want — including royal duties. His days off are his own.”

Wills, 33, is president of screen charity Bafta, but missed its annual awards ceremony for the second year running.

Last night East Anglian Air Ambulance insisted Wills was “very much part of the team” and was doing “a very important job”.

His shift patterns are determined by employer Bond Air Services, which did not respond to requests for comment.
