TSB Releases Report on Fatal Plane Crash in Grand Manan
The Transportation Safety Board says a lack of visual references and low visibility led to a plane crash involving a Piper PA-31 two years ago in Grand Manan.
In an investigative report released Friday, the agency says the pilot and a paramedic, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries in the incident on August 16th, 2014.
The other pilot and second passenger sustained serious injuries.
The plane was returning to Grand Manan from Saint John following a medevac flight.
While attempting to land a second time, the aircraft contacted a road around 1,500 feet from the runway, continued through 100 feet of brush, became briefly airborne, and struck the ground around 1,000 feet from the runway threshold.
The aircraft was destroyed.
